Beginning/Intermediate Wheel Throwing

Beginning potters will learn the basics of throwing, trimming and glazing. By the end of the
class you will be making things for everyday use. For intermediate throwers, Barron will work
with the skills you currently employ and build on those. This is your time and he wants to help
you accomplish your goals for the class.

Beginning Mosaics- Found Objects
Instructor: Jessica Kortz
Thursday Evenings 6:30-9pm, September 2-30th, 5 weeks
Class Fee: $200, including materials
Class Maximum: 6 Students
Learn the basics of creating an expressive mosaic out of found objects. In this class, you will
complete a direct method mosaic project of your choice from start to finish.  We will
experiment with various materials including ceramic and broken dishes, ceramic figurines
and other 3-D items, glass scraps, stones and shells, and other found objects that  can be
incorporated into your design. Topics covered include layout, cutting and nipping techniques,
adhesives, grouts and grout colorants.

Hand Building- All Levels

Wednesday Evenings 6-9pm, September 8- October 13, 6 weeks

This class is for students who want to learn how to work with clay without the potter’s wheel.
Whether you are interested in sculpting the human figure, constructing functional vessels or
creating abstract form, this class will equip you with the knowledge and skills to complete
your goals. The possibilities of hand building are truly endless! Students will learn several
ceramic construction techniques including coil and slab building, glazing and finishing
techniques, as well as general studio practices. This class is a good introduction to the
ceramic medium, so no clay experience necessary.

Intro to Welding
Instructor: Zophia Kneiss
Thursday Evenings, 6-9pm, September 9-30
Class Fee: $245 including materials
Class Maximum: 6 Students
Learn from a certified welder, blacksmith and metal sculptor various metal working
techniques.  Learn how to correctly weld in various methods including Arc and MIG.  
Techniques include texturing, shaping and joining with many different tools.  Classes are
project based and students are encouraged to start collecting their own scrap metal pieces
for class. (no galvanized metal)

Learn to throw on the potters wheel! This class is for those new to pottery or those need a
refresher class. The basics of wheel-thrown pottery will be taught: wedging, centering,
pulling, trimming, glazing, and basic studio etiquette. Rikki will share many tricks and secrets

Advanced Wheel Throwing

Class Maximum: 8 Students\
If you have some skills on the wheel and are looking to explore more complex forms and
techniques, this is the class for you.  From teapots to closed forms, from bottles to large
vessels, this class will give you the confidence and techniques to make anything on the
wheel. Whatever you want to construct, you will learn the way in this class. Also discussed
will be advanced finishing techniques and some critical visual thinking. Intermediate clay
knowledge required (centering, throwing the cylinder, basic glaze application, etc.)

Wheel Throwing- All Levels
Instructor: Valerie Eiler
Wednesday Mornings, 10am-1pm, September 29- November 3
Class Fee: $210 including materials
Class Maximum: 8 Students
Come play with clay and learn to through on the potters wheel.  Each student will be guided
to advance at their own pace. Beginners will learn to wedge their clay and center it, make
bowls and cups with handles, and glaze their finished pots so they can enjoy using them.  
Advanced students will be making pitchers and teapots. Emphasis will be on surface
decoration by using underglazes and paper stencils or by adding texture to the surface of
their pots with found objects  and or with plaster stamps.

Intro to Stained Glass
Instructor: Angie Slagle
Thursday Evenings, 6:30-8:30pm. October 7- November 11
Class Fee: $250, including materials
Class Maximum: 8 Students
This hands-on class is designed for those who are new to stained glass or those who may
want to brush up on their technique. The class will focus on the copper foil method of stained
glass construction. During the class, each student will create a beautiful 14" x 16" project
using the glass they select. Necessary tools will be provided.

We offer a variety of classes for all ages, and all experience levels are welcome.
Our instructors come from diverse backgrounds and offer students a range of
approaches to the creative ceramic process. We offer instruction primarily in
throwing and handbuilding, but occasionally we will have special class sessions
be able to offer you other types of art classes such as mosaics, watercolor,
drawing, and printmaking. Classes are generally 6-week sessions, meeting once
a week for a 3-hour class period. Our classroom is equipped with 8 wheels (5
Campbell's Flying Dragon Standard, 3 Thomas Stuart Classic), a Northstar Slab
Roller, a wall-mounted extruder, two large canvas-covered tables, bats, ware
boards, miscellaneous tools, and plenty of shelf space to store class work. Class
& materials fees for our clay classes include a 25 lb bag of clay (unless otherwise
noted), shop glazes and slips, all bisque and glaze firings, and open studio hours
(Tuesday- Saturday 11am- 6pm).  New students receive a complimentary pottery
tool kit with their first ceramics class.
